You do not have to chat with them, but you should at the very least understand some common rules. If you feel like you can’t communicate with your opponent, then it is highly unlikely that you will be able to play a game with them. It shows that the person who made the card did not care about what they were creating, or ~in the worst cases~ that they do not actually speak the same language as you.
